Kim Clavel

Clavel was born in Joliette-Quebec, Canada, about an hour outside of Montreal. Clavel grew up in a rural farm town in a single parent home with her mother. Her childhood was not the easiest and she played other sports before walking into a boxing gym at the age of 15. Clavel’s love for the sport grew from the first day she sparred in the gym and she told her coach she wanted to compete and become a world champion. In less than 8 months from that defining moment in the gym, Clavel became the Quebec junior champion. At the age of 18, Clavel would become a national champion in Canada and earned a spot on the Canadian  National team where she traveled around the world competing as an amateur for 7 years, amassing 85 fights.

Clavel’s goal was to make the 2012 Olympic Games and represent Canada in Women’s Boxing. Although there are 10 weight divisions in women’s boxing, only three are selected for the Olympic Games and Clavel’s weight class wasn’t selected at the 2012 or the 2016 Olympic Games. Clavel decided to turn pro after this and in 2017 made her professional boxing debut.

Clavel also studied to be a nurse while in college and training with the National team.  Clavel became a full time RN in 2014. Balancing her professional boxing career  and her profession as a nurse has placed her in quite a unique place. Clavel has become a champion inside and outside of the ring as she continues to share her passion of helping others.

Clavel made her American debut in 2020 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada in a crazy year where she found herself on the front lines of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Canada, taking a break from boxing to help those that needed it most. Clavel won the Pat Tilman Award for Service at the 2020 ESPYS. Clavel has had great success in her boxing career winning her first 12 fights and is aiming for that world title.

As a family member of Team La Perla, we couldn’t be more proud of Kim as her career moves forward inside and outside of the ring. Kim has had some of her fight camps at the gym and spent time training with Team La Perla’s professional boxers Ariana and Angela. Kim continues to share her love and passion for helping others, and we cannot wait to see her win her first world title.
